Three years after the collapse of Lehman brothers the capital markets of Europe are facing considerable challenges from the ongoing eurozone sovereign debt crisis whilst at the same time coping with a process of extensive regulatory reform designed to restore financial stability and prevent further crises.

bwf - Bundesverband der Wertpapierfirmen an den deutschen Börsen e.V. and the International Capital Market Association (ICMA), jointly presented the 4th Annual Capital Markets Conference in Frankfurt which brought together industry practitioners, regulators and academics to consider the changes that are in progress and their likely long term consequences.

A wide range of topics were covered during the one day conference, including:

  • The Future of Global Securities Market Regulation
  • Prices, Costs and Volumes of Trading and Post-Trading Services
  • The Changing World of Exchange Trading - the planned merger between Deutsche Börse and NYSE/Euronext
  • Role of Central and Commercial Bank Money in Securities Settlement.
