Event Overview

The ICMA India Primary Market Forum & Workshop in Mumbai, hosted by YES Bank, brought together issuers, syndicate banks, investors and law firms to discuss developments in international and Indian primary debt markets with particular focus on bond market trends; new products and markets, documentation practices, and international regulatory issues.

The afternoon workshop featured a presentation and Q&A session on the ICMA Primary Market Handbook, which provides guidance and recommendations on the processes and documentation required for the issuance of international securities.

An overview of the international, Asian and Indian bond markets, covering the overall macroeconomic outlook, the rise in sustainable and ESG issuance and investing and the factors driving trends and market dynamics in offshore secondary bond markets. Specific consideration will be given to the performance and prospects for Masala Bonds and other Asia/local currency bonds (eg Panda/Formosa bonds) and Dollar bonds.

  Panel 2: Documentation practices and regulatory issues

The panel will look at the differences in regional practice relating to bond issuance between EMEA and Asia and the impact that global regulation (eg MiFID II and GDPR) has had on the new issue process and more specifically recent regulatory developments with respect to Masala bonds. Progress on benchmark rate reform and the transition from the IBORS to risk-free rates in different currencies and the implications for bond markets will be discussed, as will developments in the electronification of the primary market process.
