Capital markets in the Middle East are going through a period of unprecedented change. Prior to the global financial crisis it seemed the region was immune to developments in the rest of the world. It is now clear the Middle East has not escaped unscathed.
That said, markets in the region are well positioned to weather the downturn and go from strength to strength. The region’s exchanges are becoming much more innovative, there’s an evolution in Islamic finance fuelling growth, improved transparency, better regulation and heavy government involvement to develop capital market infrastructure. The region is becoming attractive for increasingly risk-averse investors due to its phenomenal rate of growth and strong liquidity.
This conference will focus on lessons learnt from the financial crisis; setting a platform for recovery. It’s the longest running and most important conference on the topic in the region. Since 1991 it has brought together bankers, governments, regulators, exchanges, the corporate sector and investors to discuss and debate the most pressing issues facing the region’s markets as well as forge long-lasting, beneficial business relationships.
