Our Commitment to Sustainability at the 58th ICMA AGM & Conference
ICMA is committed to embedding environmentally responsible practices into every aspect of our events calendar, and the 58th ICMA AGM & Conference is no exception.
Location Selection: Why London?
As in previous years, we’ve chosen a location that helps us reduce the overall environmental impact of the conference. London is one of Europe’s most accessible cities, offering a range of low-carbon travel options for attendees across the region.
While we recognise that some delegates may arrive by air, we encourage the use of rail and other lower-impact transportation wherever feasible. For those flying, we recommend considering carbon offset options through trusted providers, such as:
Sustainable Event Venues
Queen Elizabeth II Centre - Conference & Welcome Reception
QEII Taste, is the in-house catering team at the QEII Centre, with sustainability embedded into every stage of menu design and delivery. Menus are plant-forward, seasonal, and locally sourced, prioritising British produce, responsibly sourced proteins, and sustainable seafood, while avoiding air-freighted ingredients wherever possible. A strong root-to-stem and nose-to-tail philosophy helps minimise food waste, alongside careful portion planning and surplus redistribution. All menus are designed to reduce environmental impact, with many dishes carbon-measured to support lower-impact choices, and operations are free from single-use plastics. These commitments to environmentally responsible catering were recognised with the London Venue Awards – Sustainability Award, highlighting QEII Taste’s leadership in delivering high-quality food with a reduced environmental footprint.
Natural History Museum – Gala Reception
As advocates for the planet, the Natural History Museum try to think sustainably when making decisions and to operate in a way that’s kind to the environment.
They are looking at ways they can reduce their carbon emissions and energy consumption, reuse and repurpose technology and encourage everyone to refill and recycle.

Reducing Event Waste
To minimise our environmental footprint, ICMA will not be printing programmes or distributing delegate bags. Instead, all event information will be accessible via the ICMA Conference App and through digital signage throughout the venue.
This year’s ICMA AGM and Conference delegate badges are made from recycled paper and tomato seeds. Participants are encouraged to take them home and plant them after the event.
Join Us in Making a Difference
We invite all delegates to support these efforts by making conscious travel decisions, embracing digital resources, and engaging with our venues’ sustainability values.
