Overview
The future of international capital markets is rapidly changing, driven by the adoption of distributed ledger technology (DLT) in the global bond ecosystem, the operational advances brought about in AI, and the geopolitical priorities shifting the opportunities and risks. Digital bonds, issued and managed via blockchain, offer enhanced transparency, reduced settlement times, and lower operational costs. The growing role of AI in capital markets, from deal workflows to regulatory reporting, provides for the opportunity for error reduction, further automation, and enhanced operational efficiency. Yet despite progress, challenges in the bond market still occur, from legal and regulatory complexities, custody issues, and the need for interoperable standards. Among others, ICMA’s Bond Data Taxonomy (BDT) and the Common Domain Model (CDM) have played key roles in these developments.
This inaugural Washington DC gathering explored these key themes through thought leadership and focused dialogue with industry leaders and technology experts. The ICMA Fintech Advisory Committee invited all members, comprising members of the World Bank, public/private issuers and dealer banks, to join the afternoon roundtable event, followed by a networking reception to foster meaningful conversations with key stakeholders from across the region.
